cow parade

El chico de la banca - Sërch / Flicker

CowParade is a public art exhibit with fiberglass sculptures of cows which are decorated by local artists. It started in Zürich in 1998, based on a previous exhibit with lions all over the city (lions are the symbol of Zürich).

It was in 1999 when they decided to exploit the idea and this concept became international and featured in many major world cities. At the end of the event, these cows are auctioned and the proceeds go to charity.

I had a chance to look at some of the cows when CowParade was in Tijuana, Mexico. It was such an incredible experience to see all these creatures with different styles and colors all over the city, outside the Cultural Center (pictured), by a shopping mall, at the airport, etc. Click here to take a look at the many designs featured in Tijuana.

I read that CowParade is in Madrid now and will soon be in San Diego, where artists from both Tijuana and San Diego will conveniently place their new cows all over La Jolla. I can't wait to go take pictures of them!
